The sudden change of plans for burial of Zimbabwe's longtime leader Robert Mugabe has left the government with an incomplete mausoleum. The representative of Mugabe family has said that ex-leader will be buried at his rural house. Mugabe died earlier this month after fighting a battle with prostate cancer.

Mugabe's burial site changed

As per reports, Family spokesperson Leo Mugabe revealed that ex-president will be buried September 28 at is rural Home. The government meanwhile has said that it shall comply with the family's desire. The family earlier accepted that the burial would be done at the National Heroes Acre in the Zimbabwean capital of Harare but only after a mausoleum which will be putting Mugabe in the limelight apart from the rest. The legacy of Robert Mugabe

Mugabe died earlier this month in Singapore at 95 years of age and headed Zimbabwe for 37 years before being coerced to retiring. The former rebel leader who stormed to power at end of white minority rule in 1980 and ruled Zimbabwe for record 37 years and seven months died of prostate cancer as per his successor Emmerson Mnangagwa. Mugabe's rule was marred with political violence that coerced 1 in 5 citizens into exile even as some Zimbabweans thought of him as a freedom hero. 

Toppled on November 2017 in the military- supported coup putting an end to the iron-fist rule often remarked as full of political oppression and economic decay. Mugabe's health worsened after his removal and made several trips to Singapore for medical treatment.  Mugabe was apprehensive about the way he was dethroned in the coup and had told his family that he wanted to be buried in Zvimba. But President Mnangagwa who was a close aid of Mugabe and turned against him called for his predecessor to be buried at National Heroes Acre monument to show a public connect with Mugabe's family and well-wishers.
