Over two million South Korean students returned to school on Wednesday morning in the latest stage of the country's emergence from its coronavirus lockdown.

Kindergarten students, two lowest grades of elementary school, middle school seniors and second-year high school students went back as part of the second phase of school reopening.

Extra precautions were taken, with parents and children having their temperature checked as they arrived on school premises.

About 400 schools and kindergartens decided to delay reopening due to a recent upsurge in the number of COVID-19 cases in South Korea.

Last week over 400,000 high school seniors returned to school after almost two months at home.
