Scuffles broke out outside the opposition-controlled Venezuela National Assembly on Sunday as security forces prevented lawmaker Juan Guaidó from entering a session where he would run for re-election as president of that entity and continue the fight to remove Nicolás Maduro from government.

At one point, opposition leader Juan Guaidó attempted to climb the fence and was cheered on by some, chanting "Let's go Juan." Security forces didn't allow him to jump the fence.

In a dramatic standoff, police officers wearing anti-riot helmets and flanked by metal barricades initially blocked several lawmakers from reaching the neo-classical legislature in downtown Caracas.
