Voicing her concerns in a write up published in a UK magazine, pop star Selena Gomez said that she finds the current immigration crisis in the United States of America utterly upsetting. Selena's family were immigrants from Mexico

Selena further said in the write up that her aunt came to the US by hiding in the back of a truck. Later her grandparents followed and her father was born in Texas which ultimately gave her the country's citizenship by birth. She added that she wonders about immigration "every day," and that she never happens to take the fortune of being born in her country for granted. Her family had to sacrifice a lot for giving her the life she has, she said.

"In the 1970s, my aunt crossed the border from Mexico to the United States hidden in the back of a truck. My grandparents followed, and my father was born in Texas soon after. In 1992, I was born a US citizen thanks to their bravery and sacrifice. But when I read the news headlines or see debates about immigration rage on social media, I feel afraid for those in similar situations. I feel afraid for my country," said Selena Gomez.

Gomez empathises with immigrants

The star went on to say that her concern is not about the political issues regarding immigration. It is rather the real people's lives that worries her. She feels their pain and empathises with them. Concluding her piece on immigration, she said that how we treat our fellow human beings defines who we are.

"It is a human issue, affecting real people, dismantling real lives. How we deal with it speaks to our humanity, our empathy, our compassion. How we treat our fellow human beings defines who we are," Gomez said.
