Sesh, Caulrophobia among new words added to Merriam-Webster dictionary

The Merriam Webster dictionary has now included millennial and hipster terms like 'vacay', 'sesh', or even 'tallboy', along with 530 other distinctive words

Millennial and hipster terms are now part of the Merriam-Webster dictionary. Terms like 'vacay', 'sesh', or even 'tallboy', have now been added into the dictionary along with 530 other distinctive words. According to Merriam-Webster, with these words editors of the dictionary have added 4000 new definitions, etymology and pronunciation revisions.

The new terms

According to the website, some of these new words range from “serious to playful, from technical to informal.” It has included words from pop culture, politics, sports, psychology amongst many others. The added words throw an entirely different array of 530 words which include words like 'fatberg' which means a large mass of fat and solid waste that collects in a sewer system. 'Deep State' means an alleged secret network of non-selected government officials and sometimes private entities. A short form of the solo entrepreneur was also added which is 'Solopreneur' to the popular dictionary.

People who want to define the abnormal fear of clowns can now use 'Caulrophobia'. 'Dad Joke' is now described as a wholesome and a typically corny joke with an obvious punchline is another one amongst the included words.

Some definitions have been changed

There has been some changes to definitions. For example, the term 'they', has been updated to be recognized as a pronoun with meaning: “Used to refer to a single person whose gender identity is non-binary.

The word 'Haircut' also is getting a new business meaning which means “reduction in the value of an asset. In April earlier this year, the dictionary had included more than 640 new words like 'snowflake', 'garbage time', 'on-brand' and 'gender non-conforming' including many others.
