The Tokyo Skytree was lit up in Paralympic colors on Monday As Japan marked one year to go until the postponed 2020 Summer Paralympics Games.

The nation's tallest broadcasting and observation tower was first lit up in blue with the message "Together We Can All Win!" as a tribute to the country's health workers for their efforts to combat the coronavirus.

The tower later switched to the colours of red, blue and green – the three colours which the Paralympic Symbol consists of.

The Paralympics were due to begin on Tuesday but the games have been delayed until August 24, 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement released on Monday Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike said: "We will work closely with all parties concerned and advance preparations to hold a successful Games brimming with hope, which will serve as a symbol of humankind bonding even more strongly as the world come together as one to overcome this difficult situation."
