Spain demands financial support from EU

Spain on Friday reported a new record number of daily deaths at 769 from the new coronavirus, while officials say that the rate of new infections is starting to show that the pandemic in the country might be easing.

The tally of cases increased by more than 7,800 cases to a total of 64,059 cases - Spain has now seen a total of 4,858 deaths from the new virus.

The Spanish Government, along with Italy, has requested financial assistance to prepare for a possible economic recession due to the virus outbreak.

Meanwhile, the Spanish Health Minister has been put under pressure due to a shipment of virus tests that had to be returned due to its lack of accuracy.

In addition, Spanish Armed Forces say they are now fully deployed in the IFEMA convention centre field hospital. It took army medical corps a matter of days to have the intensive care unit ready for its first critical patients.

The new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms for most people, but for some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness or death.
