Spain on Saturday announced a further 510 deaths related to the coronavirus, bringing the national death toll to 16,353.

At a news briefing, Spanish Health Minister Salvador Illa said he hoped to see "better results" next week, but for now the country remained under lockdown and had not yet reached the "de-escalation" phase.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.
