Spectacular fireworks display marks end of the school year

Fireworks lit up the night sky in the Russian city of St Petersburg on Saturday as it marked the end of the school year with a special celebration. The city held its annual Scarlet Sails event, which celebrates the end of the school year with a spectacular firework display and massive water show.

Despite restictions currently in place to stop the spread of the coronavirus, the spectacle still went ahead but was held without young spectators this year. Despite not being able to attend, many were due to watch the show from nearby embankments on the Neva River.
