Suga: Tackling global warming can boost economies

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga shared his vision to submit Japan's new target to tackle climate change by next November when the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) takes place in Glasgow.

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga shared his vision to submit Japan's new target to tackle climate change by next November when the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) takes place in Glasgow.

Suga also announced that his country decided to join the Climate Ambition Alliance to work towards achieving net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050.

He was addressing the 2020 UN Climate Ambition Summit.

Heads of state and government from over 70 countries are participating in the event, co-hosted by the United Nations, France, Britain, Italy and Chile.

During the event, the world leaders are expected to pledge to increase their efforts to curb the greenhouse gas emissions that fuel global warming.

The Paris accord set a goal for keeping global temperatures from rising above levels that could have devastating consequences for mankind.
