Opponents of the military coup in Myanmar on Thursday kept up their campaign of opposition by making a cacophony for a third successive night.

In one area of the largest city, Yangon, residents again banged together cooking utensils, bottles and plastic containers for around twenty minutes.

The military authorities have warned people not to create instability and there are fears that anyone openly defying them could soon face arrest.

Few people have dared so far to demonstrate during the daytime but the night time noise protest allows them to show their anger largely unseen.
