Thousands evacuated in Philippines as typhoon lands

Thousands of residents were evacuated in the Philippines on Saturday as Typhoon Goni, locally known as 'Rolli,' is expected to make landfall in the eastern Bicol region of Luzon.

Thousands of residents were evacuated in the Philippines on Saturday as Typhoon Goni, locally known as 'Rolli,' is expected to make landfall in the eastern Bicol region of Luzon.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) dubbed the storm as the strongest this year, it advanced with winds of 215 km per hour (133 mph) on Saturday.

PAGASA forecasts that the eye of the typhoon is likely to make landfall over Catanduanes on Sunday morning, then it will pass over mainland Camarines Provinces, and over mainland Quezon by Sunday afternoon.
