Wind and rain from Hurricane Isiais hit the Cuban seaside town of Baracoa on Friday, flooding streets and damaging dozens of homes and buildings.

Waves driven by the storm's 75 mile per hour (120 kilometre per hour) winds crashed over the sea wall, flooding nearby neighbourhoods and leaving dozens of local families homeless.

A local official said the municipal government would provide affected residents with temporary housing until either their homes are repaired or new ones built.

The storm remained offshore of the island as it heads towards Florida.

Amid coronavirus pandemic, thousands of people in the storm's path have evacuated, potentially risking contagion by going to public shelters.

No injuries or deaths were reported in Cuba, as the storm continued its way north.
