Turkey announced an expansion on its curfew to include those aged 20 and below, as has so far been implemented to the over 65s, to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday, as of midnight, "those born on 1 January 2000 and after will not be able to go out on the streets".

Other measures include mandatory mask wearing in markets, supermarkets and other crowded places.

The country is also barring entry and exits from 31 Turkish cities, except for the transportation of essential goods.

Erdogan's government has advised the public to stay at home, resisting calls to impose a total lockdown in the country.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.

The vast majority of people recover.
