Municipalities, towns and local administrations across Turkey have launched so-called "loyalty hotlines" to support those in need during the new coronavirus outbreak.

Senior citizens and those with chronic health conditions have been ordered to stay at home by the government and urged to call designated numbers to request necessities, which are then delivered to their doorstep.

The number of coronavirus cases in Turkey surpassed the 5,000 mark on Friday, while the death toll reached 92.

The health minister reported 2,069 more confirmed COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the total to 5,698.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death. The vast majority of people recover.
