Two dead in a small plane crash near Miami

A small plane crashed onto the roof of a residential building in the city of Miramar outside Miami on Monday morning.

A spokesperson for Miramar police says two people in the plane died in the crash.

"At approximately 11:40 this morning, officers received various 911 phone calls stating that a plane had crashed. They responded to the scene and discovered the plane had crashed into this home.

"We can confirm that there are two fatalities, unfortunately. In regards to why the plane crashed and what happened- that is an investigation that NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) will be handling."

A witness told WPLG-TV that he heard the plane's motor stop before it came down.

Locals living in the houses surrounding the crash have been evacuated.

The cause of the crash or the plane's itinerary was not immediately known.
