Myanmar security forces shot dead two people overnight in the Dawbon area of Yangon, according to independent broadcaster the Democratic Voice of Burma, as the United Nations said at least 138 protesters have been killed since the 1 February coup.

At least 56 died over the weekend.

Video sent to The Associated Press shows anti-coup protesters starting to flee from a barricade in the district, on Monday night, amid the sound of gunfire.

Shortly after, a squad of soldiers arrive and begin a search.

A flashlight then picks out a body slumped at the corner of the barrier, which they drag away.

The dead man's clothing comes off as he is pulled roughly over the barricade and down the street.

The sound of anti-coup slogans can be heard throughout.

Myanmar's ruling junta has declared martial law in a wide area of the country's largest city, as security forces killed dozens of protesters over the weekend in an increasingly lethal crackdown on resistance to last month's military takeover.
