Police in Vietnam have launched a probe after a factory was found recycling used condoms, local media reported.

Following a tip off from a local resident, Binh Duong provincial market management force raided the factory located just outside the southern economic hub of Ho Chi Minh city, where they found some 320,000 used condoms, which were being repacked and ready to be sold on the market last Saturday, state-owned newspaper Tuoi Tre reported.

According to a market inspector, the owner of the factory, a 34-year-old woman, confessed that they bought used condoms from a man in the province. The condoms would then be washed, reshaped and packed into plastic packages, the newspaper said.

The newspaper said that provincial police was tracking down those involved in the case for further investigation.

It also quoted a health official saying the recycled condoms posed an extreme health risk to their users.
