A spokesperson for Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that it was up to the residents of Ukraine's Kherson region to "determine their fate." Dmitry Peskov made the comment after a Russia-installed official in the region said that the region's administration will ask Putin to annex Kherson.

When commenting on gas supplies passing through Ukraine, Peskov said that Russia was committed to its "contracts and obligations." Ukraine had stopped the flow of Russian natural gas through one hub that feeds European homes and industry on Wednesday.

Peskov also addressed recent accusations of cyber attacks by Russia, saying that "in recent days, it was Russia that became the victim of fairly large-scale cyber attacks." Peskov was referring to the alleged attack on the Russian social media platform Rutube.
