Singapore: Baggage handler swaps over 300 bags out of frustration

A baggage handler in Singapore has been awarded a jail sentence of 20 days on the charges of changing tags on approximately 300 suitcases at the Changi airport

A baggage handler in Singapore has been awarded a jail sentence of 20 days on the charges of changing tags on approximately 300 suitcases at city-state Changi airport. His little stunt that ultimately resulted in the bags reaching wrong destinations in different parts of the world. According to reports, the accused, Tay Boon Keh, accepted the allegations of changing the tags on 286 bags at the Changi airport, considered to be one of the world's busiest airports.

Keh was suffering from major depressive disorders

According to reports, Keh, changed the tags between the period of November 2016- February 2017 because he was frustrated and angry after his request for the extra workforce at his work station was turned down. Keh has been suffering from major depressive disorders when he swapped the tags. 

In response to this, the state lawyers prosecuting him stated that the evidence presented in the court clearly showcased that his "depressive disorders" did not have a significant contribution in fanning his actions and that he was completely in control of himself when he committed the offences.

One of the state prosecutors, Thiam Jia Min, stated that the swapping of the tags could have led to serious consequences such as passengers without their medicines in the time of need. According to reports, the baggage mainly affected were those bound to Perth, Frankfurt, London, Manila, and San Francisco. Also, the bags belonged to people travelling through the Changi airport and using the services of Singapore Airlines and regional airline, SilkAir.

'Going round in circles'

The O'Hare airport in Chicago, Illinois, was witness to an incident on its tarmac that has since gone viral on social media platforms such as Twitter. An unusual scenario that was captured on video showcases an unmanned and an out of control cart going haywire on the tarmac next to an unmanned plane. 

The bizarre video taken by Kevin Klauer, CEO, of American Osteopathic Association, has garnered over 5 million views and it shows an unmanned catering cart going in circles alongside dropping out beverage cans and other items stocked up in its compartment. During the video, an employee fallen on the ground can be seen dragged away to safety by a fellow colleague.
