The Buenos Aires Tango World Cup hit the stage on Saturday with COVID-19 health protocols and reduced capacity after a 2020 all virtual edition.

Dancers from 25 countries will compete in two categories, salon-style and stage-style.

Competitors will be able to participate in person and virtually, and both versions will be judged in a single competition.

A traditional salon-style dance known as "milongas," where couples dance together got underway.

The dancers move forward throughout the song, drawing an imaginary circle around the dance floor, each with their particular style but following the same unwritten rules.

The tournament's grand finale will take place on September 26.
