Chilean President Sebastián Piñera urged nations to share coronavirus vaccines to poorer countries to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.

He made the remarks during his pre-recorded address to the UN General Assembly which was played on Tuesday.

Pinera said that it was a "great scientific triumph" that vaccines had been created in a short period of time.

But he also added that "politics failed" as some countries  "don't have the vaccine or equipment to give minimal protection to their population."

After being among the world's hardest-hit nations with COVID-19, Chile is now near the top among countries at vaccinating its population against the virus.
