Hundreds of firefighters on Thursday tried to put out various forest fires that destroyed thousands of hectares in the Argentine province of Córdoba, amid high temperatures and strong winds.

Authorities in Cordoba said that most of the active fires were in Punilla, east of the city of Cordoba, but extended to another nine districts.

Some of the fires in Punilla was contained and posed no risk to the local population, but grasslands and pine forests were destroyed in the rural area of Pampa de Olaen.
