Brazil's former President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva received his second COVID-19 jab in a Sao Paulo suburb on Saturday, as the country's daily death toll neared 4,000.

At a drive-thru vaccination booth in Sao Bernado do Campo, the former leader received his second dose of the Chinese Sinovac vaccine.

After receiving the shot, Lula said the vaccine should be a global public good.

"Today, 76% of the world's vaccines are in the hands of 10 countries. And three of them own 50% of the vaccines," he said. "The question is what will happen to the rest of humanity."

Unlike President Jair Bolsonaro, Lula has been an advocate for mass vaccination.

Sao Bernado do Campo's health secretary Geraldo Reple Sobrinho said there were low supplies of vaccines and irregular deliveries, dragging out the rollout.

Meanwhile, the 66-year-old Bolsonaro hasn't yet decided whether or not he will be inoculated.
