Dozens of Chileans, many of them Palestinian emigres, gathered for the second day in a row in Santiago on Wednesday to show their support for Palestinians amid the ongoing conflict with Israel.

Protesters gathered outside the Israeli embassy shouting slogans and waving Palestinian flags.

The rallies have been organised by Maurice Khamis, the president of the Palestinian community in Chile.

"We are demanding that the Chilean state to end relations with the state of Israel," said Carol Cariola, a Communist Party congresswoman.

One man, a Jewish protester named Yoel, said he was against the Israeli government's actions.

"We have to let it be clear that not all Jewish people support what Israel is doing, and what Israel does puts us all in grave danger."

During the ten days of fighting, Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes against what it says are militant targets in Gaza since the fourth war between the two sides broke out earlier this month. Hamas and other militants have fired more than 3,700 rockets at Israel.

Gaza health officials say at least 219 Palestinians have been killed in airstrikes. Twelve people in Israel have been killed in rocket attacks.
