A demonstration headed by Bolivian President Alberto Arce and former president Evo Morales, was joined by thousands when it entered the capital outskirts on Monday, after a week marching through the country.

The march, which departed with more than 4,000 from Caracollo, an Andean small town, significantly grew as the leftist leaders passed through El Alto.

Coca farmers, miners and local residents were among the demonstrators.

Members of the official party called for the march in their support, saying opposition members have tried to destabilize the government.

Rallying in La Paz, Morales called for the Bolivian interests to be above the "right-wing."

Early in November and after weeks of protests of drivers and merchants, president Arce derogated a new law passed to confiscate goods to avoid money laundering.

Arce took office as president in November 2020, during an election that ousted the interim mandate Jeanine Áñez.

Áñez faced sedition, terrorism and conspiracy charges for the time she held office and protests that ended with the resignation and exile of Evo Morales in 2019.

Morales returned to Bolivia during the mandate of Arce, and since then had regained the leadership of the largest coca farmers' union in Bolivia.
