After North Korea openly vowed to revise its constitution to enshrine a policy on nuclear weapons, South Korea’s Defense Ministry on Tuesday warned that the DPRK will witness the "end of its regime" should it employ such tactics that felicitate the use of nukes.
“Our military is equipped with a combined South Korea-US readiness posture that can overwhelmingly respond to any attack from North Korea," Seoul's Defense Ministry warned in a statement accessed by Seoul-based Yonhap News Agency. "If North Korea attempts to use nukes, it will face the end of its regime,” the ministry went on to iterate. North Korea is openly endorsing the use of nuclear weapons despite that the safety of the citizens of both Koreas will be in jeopardy, Seoul's ministry asserted.
“This is a grave threat that harms peace and stability in the international community, including on the Korean Peninsula, and through this, North Korea will become further isolated from the international community and its people's suffering will deepen," the statement read.
US, South Korea, Japan Alliance 'worst actual threat': Kim Jong Un
North Korea's constitutional amendment follows the implementation of a law on nukes in September last year regarding the preemptive use of nuclear weapons. DPRK's law stated that the nuclear forces 'shall carry out an operational mission for repulsing hostile forces' aggression' to be victorious if 'war deterrence fails.' North Korean authoritarian leader Kim Jong Un has used the growing cooperation between the United States, South Korea and Japan as the pretext for accumulating nukes, labelling the alliance as the 'worst actual threat' to his isolated nation. Last week, North Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Im Chon Il slammed the alliance between the Western military bloc NATO, the US, Japan and South Korea a 'cancerous tumour' of the world order.
"The military alliance of the US, Japan and the Republic of Korea, which is exposing hostile designs against North Korea and its neighbouring countries, as well as NATO, the instigator of the Ukraine crisis, are cancerous tumours endangering the international order and posing a serious threat to world peace and security," the DPRK diplomat was quoted saying by state affiliated KCNA.
