Spain's COVID-19 infection rate increases

Spain's number of new COVID-19 cases is continuing its slow but steady rise, though the increase is at a slower rate than in previous surges, health officials said on Monday.

Director of the Spanish coordinating centre for health alerts and emergencies Fernando Simón said Spain on Monday reported an incidence rate of 199 cases per 100,000 people over 14 days.

He also said that thanks to the rollout of vaccines, the lethality rate is decreasing, but urged the public to keep following the rules.

Earlier on Monday, a Spanish pharmaceutical company said it’s setting up a new production line that would produce millions of Moderna’s coronavirus vaccine doses on European Union soil later this year.

Rovi’s existing facility in southern Spain’s Granada will receive an undisclosed investment to produce the active ingredient of Moderna’s jab.
