Washington: A delightful moment was captured on camera after a 29-year-old Indian-origin businesswoman of Gujarati descent, Shivani Raja took oath in the UK Parliament on the holy Bhagavad Gita.
Shortly after taking the oath as a Britain MP, Shivani took to X and said, "It was an honour to be sworn into Parliament today to represent Leicester East. I was truly proud to swear my allegiance to His Majesty King Charles on the Gita."
In the recent parliamentary elections, Shivani secured a historic victory in the Leicester East seat for the Conservative Party, ending the Labour Party's 37-year dominance in the constituency. This win is the first time that the constituency has elected a Tory in 37 years.
Shiavni contested against fellow Indian-origin Labour candidate Rajesh Agrawal. She won the race by a margin of over 4,000 votes.
She secured 14,526 votes while the former deputy mayor of London got 10,100 votes.
