British Prime Minister Boris Johnson celebrated the end of COP26, calling it "the moment humanity finally go real about climate change".

In a recorded statement released Saturday, Johnson said the "world has made some important breakthroughs" and "huge progress" had been made on policy around coal, cars and forests.

"For the first time ever, we've got over 190 countries all agreeing to sound the death knell for coal power," he added.

Johnson later waned that while "much more still needs to be done" there was now a "viable roadmap" to beating climate change and restricting the rise in temperatures to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit).

His message came after almost 200 nations accepted a contentious climate compromise aimed at keeping a key global warming target alive, but it contained a last-minute change that watered down crucial language about coal.
