A Second World War veteran completed a 104-mile cycle for charity to mark the 76th anniversary Normandy landings. Using a static bike, 96-year-old Len Gibbon began cycling on VE Day with the aim of covering the distance from Portsmouth to Gold Beach by D-Day.

On separate occasions, due to social distancing, his friend and fellow Normandy Veteran, Peter Hawkins, 95, also took on the challenge.

Both men are residents at Care for Veterans, which provides care and rehabilitation to physically disabled former service personnel and their families.

Currently, they have raised £6,839 on their Just Giving page.
