An NHS doctor said British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was not moved to intensive care as a precaution but because he is most likely very sick from the new coronavirus.

Speaking on Sky News about Johnson's condition, Dr Ellie Cannon explained: "He may have gone to hospital as a precautionary measure, but he would have gone into intensive care because they are worried about the state of his health."

Johnson was admitted to St Thomas' Hospital in London on Sunday, 10 days after he was diagnosed with COVID-19.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.

The vast majority of people recover.
