It was a bizarre moment when the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle opened her arms to hug a charity organiser on stage during the One World Summit on October 22. The 38-year-old was caught on camera clashing with Kate Robertson at the event. The duo had a greeting mishap on the stage. Meghan opened her arms and went for a hug while Kate dropped down for a slight curtsy. It resulted in a strange hug with Meghan's arms around Roberston's shoulders and Roberston's arms around Meghan's waist. The two laughed it out and decided to hug.

The Royal Tradition

According to the royal tradition, the men bow their heads and women perform a small curtsy. Handshakes are also acceptable, but hugging is not really used as a greeting for British royals. Kate misjudged the situation and followed the traditional greeting with Meghan and shake her hand, as is the correct protocol for members of the Royal Family. Both women saw the funny side of the situation and laughed it off. Meghan was the guest of honor at the opening ceremony which begins a four-day event, described as a "global forum for young leaders", brings together 2,000 young people from more than 190 countries.
She was sat next to Nobel Peace Prize recipient Professor Muhammad Yunus for the event. During the summit opening, London mayor Sadiq Khan, actor Warwick Davies and One Young World co-founders Kate Robertson and Dave Jones were among the speakers who were present.
