Parts of Britain were hit by heavy snow and icy conditions as a cold weather front struck the east of the UK on Sunday.

Temperatures plummeted as Storm Darcy, being dubbed locally as the 'beast from the east part 2', arrived in the east of England, blanketing towns and cities in snow.

The adverse weather caused disruption to travel by train services cancelled and dangerous conditions reported on roads and vaccination centres in some areas were also forced to close, some without warning.

The storm has been caused by cold air making its way across from Russia and Eastern Europe and has already caused icy conditions and large snowfall in other European nations including Germany and the Netherlands.

UK weather forecaster the Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for towns and cities, including London, in the east of England and Scotland until Wednesday.
