Jeremy Corbyn terms UK PM Boris Johnson's new Brexit deal a 'sell-out'

As the British Parliament sits to debate the new Brexit deal proposed by the EU and UK PM, the Labour Party leader, Jeremy Corbyn termed it a “sell-out deal”

As the British Parliament sits to debate the great new deal drafted by Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European Union's Jean Claude-Junker on October 19, the Labour Party leader, Jeremy Corbyn called it a “sell-out deal” and that the UK's Labour officials will not support the deal. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a “great new deal” for Brexit on October 17. The 28-nation bloc of the European Union as converged for the EU summit on Thursday, with the main focus was Britain's impending divorce and subsequent exit from the EU. European Union leaders had also said that they were still awaiting the text on Brexit deal, PM Johnson's tweet came as a surprise. The British leader also believes, now that a great deal has taken back control, Parliament should get Brexit done on October 31 as planned to shift focus onto 'other priorities'.

Labour Party on 'great new deal'

However, the new Brexit deal led by the conservatives has received a mixed reaction. The Labour Party released an official statement a few hours after the deal was announced by EU's Jean Claude-Junker and British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, saying the party “trusts the people to decide”. The opposition party has maintained the stance to let the citizens who will be impacted the most with a deal to decide which deal is better for their peaceful existence. They have also started a public portal to vote for or against the present new agreement which according to PM Johnson takes back control.

'Do not support'

Jeremy Corbyn has also said that from the information which has been received, the new deal is worse than what was proposed by the former British PM Theresa May. According to Corbyn, the present agreement also puts the citizens' rights at risk and therefore, should be rejected. Fleur Anderson, a Labour Party candidate for Parliament, also said that the vast majority of Wandsworth residents do not agree with the Brexit deal and that many people have started feeling the impact. The deal which Juncker termed as “fair” has not been supported by one of UK's main parties, the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). The Northern Ireland party also released an official statement about why the members will not be able to support the proposals in Parliament.
