Meghan Markle & Prince Harry's lawsuit takes on British tabloids

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, sued three British tabloids separately over two different cases. Prince Harry filed a lawsuit against the British tabloids, The Sun and the Daily Mirror over alleged phone hacking and copyright violation. Prince Harry vs British tabloids

Prince Harry filed a lawsuit against British publication, The Sun and the Daily Mirror. The lawsuit against publications is over alleged phone hacking and copyright violation. Following this lawsuit, the defendants are now firing back against the British prince. The Daily Mail released a comment given by the Duchess of Sussex's father Thomas Markle to them. In his comment the Duchess's father stated that he released parts of the letter because of an article of Meghan's friend in a leading magazine. Thomas Markle's comment further stated his stand regarding the tragic misunderstanding between him and his daughter Meghan Markle. The Buckingham Palace also confirmed the news that the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, has sued the British publications over illegal interception of voice messages. Further details of the lawsuit have not been revealed nor has the Palace commented about the ongoing issue.

Prince Harry recently made a statement that stated his stand against a certain British tabloid, in this case, The Mail on Sunday. According to the Duke’s statement, these tabloids have been campaigning against his wife without giving any thought to the consequences. In his statement, the prince stated that the tabloid’s action aggravated over the period Meghan Markle’s pregnancy and the birth of their son. Prince Harry’s statement has also mentioned relentless propaganda with no thought about the human cost.

The official statement talks about the private letter published by the tabloid which the Duchess had written to her father Thomas Markle. The statement ends with Prince Harry talking about the repetition of the pattern which his mother Princess Diana suffered from due to continuous and ruthless coverage by the media. The Prince further observed in his statement that, "his wife is falling to prey to the same powerful forces that his mother Princess Diana". Read the official statement by the Duke of Sussex above.

Meghan Markle’s lawsuit against The Mail on Sunday

Duchess Meghan Markle also filed a lawsuit against The Mail on Sunday for copyright and infringement of her privacy. The letter comes under a copyright claim since it is an intellectual property and hence the property owner can file a copyright claim in case of misuse. The letter published by the tabloid was addressed to Meghan Markle’s father telling him to stop interacting with the media. The Duchess has hired a libel lawyer's firm Schillings. The law firm is allegedly known to be an attack dog against journalists on behalf of their clientele.
