Police cars patrolled parks in London on Sunday as those living in the city gathered in the sun despite repeated warnings from the UK government to adhere to lockdown rules.

In North London cyclists, joggers and families were seen outside in parks, enjoying temperatures of up to 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit).

However in spite of stark warnings from government officials on keeping a two-metre social distancing rule, people appeared to be socialising in groups.

One police officer in Clissold Park in Islington could be seen dispersing people.

Government officials issued repeated warnings that Britons were not to take advantage of the good weather, and were only to leave their homes to visit supermarkets or get exercise.

On Saturday, Britain's jump in coronavirus deaths outpaced the daily toll in Italy.

Britain recorded 708 new coronavirus deaths Saturday while Italy reported 631 deaths that day.

With 621 more deaths reported on Sunday, Britain has 4,934 virus deaths overall among 47,806 cases.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death. The vast majority of people recover.
