Quoirin family claims damages against resort owners

Lawyers representing the family of an Irish teenager who died in Malaysia last year appeared in court on Wednesday to file a claim against the resort at which they were staying when she went missing.

15-year-old Nora Quoirin, who had learning difficulties, was found naked in the jungle surrounding the Dusun resort in Seremban after an extensive search ten days after she went missing.

The family is claiming negligence on the part of the resort owners.

Sankara Nair, who is representing her family, claims that because a window latch in their accommodation was broken at the time of their stay, it would have been easy for someone to kidnap Nora.

The family is attempting to claim damages amounting to 152,000 Ringgit (37,000 US dollars).

The family has also requested that Malaysian authorities begin an inquest into the circumstances of the teenager's death and say there are still many unanswered questions surrounding death of Nora.
