The Honorary Consul of Tuvalu has said he hopes Charles III's passion for tackling climate change will benefit the South Pacific islands.

Iftikhar Ayaz met the new king earlier on Sunday at Buckingham Palace.

Tuvalu, an independent island nation which is within the British Commonwealth, has suffered problems brought on by climate change and Ayaz said the islands needs more help.

The king has long campaigned for more to be done to tackle climate change but as new monarch he will be expected to refrain from interfering in politics.

"I think since our present King has been very keen on climate change and sustainable environment, he will surely continue his vision of doing something concrete to, to help such islands," he said.

He spoke of how the people of Tuvalu, which is made up of 9 tiny islands, loved and admired the late Queen Elizabeth II.
