Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Friday urged people to support local businesses as the UK comes out of lockdown by "acting responsibly" and adhere to government advice such as social distancing.

Speaking at Downing Street, he said businesses such as "our local restaurants, hairdressers, libraries, museums, cinemas and yes, pubs" and the people who worked in them had "put in an heroic effort to prepare... for this reopening."

"But the success of these businesses and the livelihoods of those who rely on them and ultimately the economic health of the whole country is dependant on every single one of us acting responsibly," the prime minister warned.
