Healthworkers stood on the roof of a London hospital to clap for key workers on Thursday, as part the weekly UK Clap for carers.

The applause was led by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, in a show of gratitude and support for National Health Service workers treating those most affected by the coronavirus.

Johnson made headlines earlier on Thursday following a decision to exempt health workers from other countries who work for the NHS from an otherwise mandatory surcharge to use the health system.

The UK currently has 252,234 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, and 36,124 reported deaths according to the Johns Hopkins University tally.
