British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Monday there will be changes to the UK's extradition treaty with Hong Kong, after China imposed a tough new national security law on the territory.
"There is a balance here, Johnson told reporters during a school visit. "I'm not going to be pushed into a position of becoming a knee-jerk Sinophobe on every issue, somebody who is automatically anti-China but we do have serious concerns."
As tensions have grown with Beijing, UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab is reportedly planning to follow the example of the United States, Australia and Canada on Monday by suspending extradition arrangements with Hong Kong.
