War veteran and fundraiser Colonel Tom Moore was awarded a knighthood for raising nearly 40 million Pounds (50 million U.S Dollars) for the UK National Health Service during the coronavirus pandemic.

His initial goal was to raise 1,000 Pounds for NHS charities by completing 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday in April.

But the support across the UK was so high that he ended up raising tens of millions.

The Award was promoted by Prime Minister Boris Johnson and officially approved by the Queen on Wednesday.

Colonel Moore said he's been overwhelmed by the gratitude and love from the British public and beyond and was amazed to see how many people decided to raise money to help those fighting COVID-19.

He said that many people suffer from loneliness, but everyone has the capacity of doing so many extraordinary things to help others in need.
