The European Parliament is forming its internal structure to deal with the upcoming United Kingdom trade negotiations.

The UK Coordination Group, chaired by German Member of European Parliament, David McAllister, replaces the Brexit Steering Group.

McAllister said the process will have to move quickly, with certain things priorised before negotiations end late October or beginning of November, as the British government voted against extending the transition period.

"It's important that we speak with one voice as a European Parliament," said McAllister on Wednesday, before adding various committee chairs will be invited to speak to the UK Coordination Group when their relevant issues are being discussed with the negotiation team.

Michel Barnier, European Commission UK trade negotiator, said trade negotiations with the UK will commence late February.

Barnier will brief the European Parliament before and after each round of UK trade negotiations.
