London: As the world gears up to ring in the New Year, the Indian High Commission in the United Kingdom found a unique way to extend their New Year greetings. In a video shared on X, formally known as Twitter, the High Commission shared a heartwarming video in which the greetings were extended in various mother tongues highlighting India's rich cultural diversity. The video message opened with India's High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami expressing his warm wishes for the New Year while shedding light on the main motive behind the initiative.

“Last year, my colleagues and I wanted to showcase the diversity of India's many, many languages. And we wished you all in our mother tongues, our home languages,” Doraiswami averred. "This year to be different, we're going to try and showcase just how much the diversity of our languages is part of our culture by trying to wish you a very happy new year in somebody else's mother tongue from India," he added. The video featured a host of members of the Indian Mission in London extending New Year wishes in languages other than their own mother tongues. Doraiswami took the first swing at it and extended New Year wishes in Assamese, despite being a South Indian.
