A barge carrying inflatable figures of UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and US President Joe Biden has been floating off the coast of Cornwall on Friday, ahead of the official start of the G7 summit in the region.

The figures had messages written on their hands reading "Wave of Hope" and "Crack the Crises".

The "Wave of Hope" campaign is run by a group called Crack the Crises, which is attempting to get every world leader to agree to global goals of addressing both the coronavirus crisis and climate change, among others.

Johnson met with Biden on Thursday ahead of the G7 summit.

Other leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan were due to arrive at the tiny village of Carbis Bay, near St. Ives in Cornwall for three days of talks starting Friday.

The summit, which brings together some of the world's wealthiest nations, is expected to have recovery from the global coronavirus pandemic and the climate crisis at the top if its agenda.
