Prince William and his wife Kate - the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - joined London mayor Sadiq Khan on a visit to the Royal Botanic Gardens on Wednesday, where children from a local school were working on creative ideas to save the planet.

The royals joined the children as they worked in small groups to discuss strategies — some more eccentric than feasible — that could reverse biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Television presenter Steve Backshall and his wife - double-Olympic rowing champion Helen Glover-  also participated in the event.

The initiative was inspired by William's Earthshot Prize, an environmental award launched last year which seeks to "incentivise change" and help repair the planet.
