Washington: US President Donald Trump dismissed Ukraine’s hopes of joining NATO, stating that the issue was a key reason behind the ongoing war with Russia. His remarks have sparked fresh debates over US foreign policy and NATO's role in the conflict.
Ukraine Can Forget About NATO, Says Trump
Speaking to the press during his first cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Trump blamed NATO expansion for the war and made it clear that Ukraine’s membership in the alliance was not on the table.
"NATO -- you can forget about," Trump said when asked about a potential deal to end the war. "I think that's probably the reason the whole thing started."

'Europe, Not U.S., Should Provide Security Guarantees to Ukraine'
Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday also said that Europe, not the United States, should be responsible for offering security guarantees to Ukraine. Speaking to the press, Trump emphasized that his administration is focused on brokering a peace deal between Kyiv and Moscow to end the ongoing war. The meeting was attended by key cabinet members, including Elon Musk, head of DOGE and a close Trump ally.
