Newark: A United Airlines flight carrying 176 passengers and six crew members was forced to make an emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport early Tuesday morning. The United Airlines flight 1544 took off from the New Jersey airport just before 6 am but turned back about an hour into the flight after suffering a mechanical problem, according to the airline.
According to reports, the plane, en route to Las Vegas' Harry Reid International Airport, was diverted back to Newark Liberty International Airport due to a possible mechanical issue. "United flight 1544 to Las Vegas returned to Newark Liberty International Airport to address a possible mechanical issue," a United spokesperson said in a statement.
The statement further stated, "The flight landed safely, and all passengers deplaned normally at the gate."
The airline arranged for a different aircraft to take the passengers to Las Vegas later that morning. "We have arranged for a different aircraft to take our customers to Las Vegas this morning," the spokesperson added.

Reportedly, it wasn't immediately clear what issue led to the emergency landing. The incident is currently under investigation.

Recent Aviation Incidents
This incident comes on the heels of several recent aviation incidents, including a Delta Air Lines flight that made an emergency landing in Tennessee last month due to a mechanical issue. In January, a Hawaiian Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing in San Francisco after a passenger suffered a medical emergency.
Earlier, the New York-Delhi American Airlines flight AA 292 was diverted to the Leonardo Da Vinci Airport in Rome, escorted by Italian fighter jets on Sunday evening after allegedly receiving a bomb threat.
In another aviation incident, at least 18 people were injured after a Delta Air Lines flight with 80 people onboard from Minneapolis, crash landed at Canada’s Toronto Pearson International Airport. The aircraft ended upside down on the snowy runway at the airport.
