What are the 9/11 attacks?

On the fateful 11 September 2001, 19 militants of the al-Qaeda, hijacked five airplanes and crashed them into the twin towers of the World Trade Centre in New York, Pentagon in Washington DC. One of the deadliest terrorist attacks on American soil in U.S. history, this attack left extensive death and destruction around the US. Some 2,750 people were killed in New York, 184 at the Pentagon, and 40 in Pennsylvania passengers were reported dead. While all 19 terrorists died in the efforts, many police and fire department personnel too lost their lives in the rescue efforts. This led to America's longest war in Afghanistan in which the US fought to capture and terminate the 9/11 mastermind Osama Bin Laden. Currently, the US is involved in peace talks with the Taliban to withdraw troops from Afghanistan.
